Adventure #3- sort of

So our Adventure # 3 was intended to be a lot of fun. We purchased a book called Idaho for the curious and it has all sorts of things to do in Idaho. It is broken up by Highways. Our original plan was to head down Hwy 78 to the Wind Caves, but as we were heading out, we changed our minds and went to go to Silver City which is also off of Hwy 78. We got the kids singing (because of our new no TV in the car rule and the fact that we weren't in the van) all different songs from our Primary favorites to the good old boy scout/girl's camp songs.
While on Silver City road I whipped out the book and read about Silver City to the family. It was all very interesting until it got to the part when it said that the road isn't open until May. WHAT! We were already going down the road AND a few trucks had passed us, so SURELY it HAD to be open! We passed a sign that said from this point on you will be responsible to pay for your own search and rescue. My red flag went up, but Robert chuckled and kept on driving. The road was getting muddier and muddier and then slushy and then quickly turned into snow. Naturally, I expressed my thankfulness that we were not in my van and that I didn't think we should go ANY further. This was recieved on deaf ears of an adrenalin junky. Finally, however, we got to a point where there were a lot of trucks, with snow mobile trailers attached to them, parked and Robert conceded. There were pouts on the kids' (and Robert's) faces and the smile on mine, it was time to turn around.

Once safely out of the windy and muddy roads, we headed over to Marsing for a late lunch. We took the kids down to the Snake River and played on the wobbly dock while Robert called in a Green Heron -which is a rare bird here in Idaho-.
Robert and I got the dock shaking and freaked Kyle out and made the girls laugh. We saw lizard rock and chimney rock and we hope that come spring/early summer we can pay a second trip out Hwy 78 and actually have the adventure we originally set out for.
We had the kids bring their books to read and I thought Claire was so cute with Kyle. He was reading to her and her arm was around his neck. Ahhhh... Sibling love and kindness.

2 who want to talk about it:

That's a bummer! I've been to Silver City and it's cool! John and I went before we had kids! Really neat little church and some really cool old buildings. Hope you get there later in the spring!
