2010 Adventure #8

Last weekend we went up to Pearl to Michael Wiegand's home for the annual humming bird banding. If you go to Robert's birding blog you can see more about it.
You first have to go "Humming Bird fishing". They set up these cages with a door that you shut (with a fishing line) once a humming bird goes into it to drink out of the feeders.

Then they take the birds to Fred, the bird bander
(Check out Robert's blog and you can get to know everyone)

After they get weighed, measured, gender check and banded, they feed the little guys.
They let anyone who would like to hold them do so and the humming birds fly off of your hand.

First was Kyle' turn

Then Anne

Then Victoria

and last but not least, it was Claire's turn
Her bird stayed on her for a really long time and she almost squished in her palm, but we all gasped and she quickly opened her hand and the little guy flew away.

They also had a little tree frog that the older kids thought was so cool.
